Alliance Française de Brisbane is delighted to partner with SAE University College Brisbane to bring you a monthly French cineclub series!
This initiative celebrates French cinema, offering everyone—students, film enthusiasts, friends, family, and the broader community—a
chance to explore French culture through film in an educational and engaging setting.
Join us for another Alliance Française Cineclub at SAE for another classic French film:
Sophie's Misfortunes
Les Malheurs de Sophie
Director: Christophe Honoré
Based on the beloved classic French children’s novel by Comtesse de Ségur, this charming adaptation follows
young Sophie, a mischievous girl who can’t resist the temptation of the forbidden — especially when she’s getting up to no good with her
cousin Paul. When her parents decide to travel to America, Sophie is delighted. But a year later, she returns to France with her cruel
stepmother, Madame Fichini. With the help of her two exemplary friends and their mother, Madame de Fleurville, Sophie must navigate
childhood, punishment, friendship, and freedom as she tries to escape her stepmother’s clutches.
