Anim'Action: AUSTRALIAN PREMIERE - The Crossing (La Traversée)

The Crossing (La Traversée)

A pillaged village, a fleeing family, and two lost children on the roads of exile... Kyona and Adriel are trying to escape those who are pursuing them in order to reach a country with a more lenient regime. During an initiatory journey that will take them from childhood to adolescence, they will face numerous trials, both fantastical and very real, in order to reach their destination.

About the director...

Born in 1956, Florence graduated from the National School of Decorative Arts with a specialization in engraving. She began her professional career as a layout artist for the press and exhibited drawings and engravings. Since then, she has established a highly distinctive style in the field of animation cinema. She creates her films using painting, pastels, or sand, directly under the camera using a layering technique. Her work has been recognized at various festivals in France and internationally. She notably received the César for Best Short Film in 2002 for "Au premier dimanche d'août," a special mention at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006 for "Conte de Quartier," and in 2015, she was honored with a Crystal Award at the 39th Annecy International Animated Film Festival for her entire body of work. She has worked as a teacher in various animation schools, including Les Gobelins, ENSAD, and La Poudrière, while continuing her work as a visual artist alongside her filmmaking. Most of her films have been co-written with the writer Marie Desplechin. Their feature film "La Traversée" received the Best Screenplay award at the 2010 Premiers Plans Festival in Angers and was the subject of an exhibition at the Fontevraud Abbey. In 2017, it received the Fondation Gan pour le Cinéma award.
