FAQ - online classes

CLASSES

Are classes running?
Yes.  Session 1 was postponed by a week to assist with our transition to online classes.  During last week we ran over 50 technology demonstration classes on Zoom which were wonderfully received. The current term is extended until Saturday 11 April.  (We'll follow up directly with students in any classes that fall on Good Friday or Easter Saturday to arrange an alternative class time.)

Session 2 for new beginners will start Monday 6 April. You can join an intensive class or our standard once-a-week classes.

Classes for all other levels start from Tuesday 14 April.

New duration of Adult class
We are introducing a new class format based on expert research and best practices. We’ll be using this same format for session 2 combined with sending out materials before the class, and of course your homework afterwards!

The new two-hour format - optimised for online learning will follow this format:

  1. Log in 10 minutes before your class to say 'Bonjour';
  2. followed by 55 minutes;
  3. a 15 minute break; and
  4. a second 50 minute session;
  5. the class will conclude with some free chat time.

OUR ONLINE PLATFORM - ZOOM

How long do you plan to have classes on Zoom only?
Session 2 will be entirely on Zoom. If it is safe to do so, we will resume teaching face-to-face in July.

Is it important to be tech-savvy for the classes on Zoom?
No it is not. We will provide the help you need and guide you through the process.

I attended a demo class but I’m not comfortable using Zoom.
We are here to help you. If you have attended a Zoom demo class but still don’t feel confident, get in touch with Benoit (benoit@afbrisbane.com), he will schedule a time with you to help build your confidence.

I am not sure I will like the classes online. Can I try one before deciding?

Yes. There are a couple of weeks left before the end of Session 1. Now is the best time to try a class! Contact Celine (info@afbrisbane.com) at reception to organise a trial.

Will classes be recorded?
Classes will not be recorded at present.  We have received advice from UQ teachers that Zoom is more likely to perform poorly or crash if sessions are recorded.  We are also conscious that we will first need to get permission from all participants prior to any recordings being made.  However, we are investigating options for recording short teacher-only class summaries to help all of our students keep up-to-date.
