A1 is achieved in 120 hours. It is subdivided into 6 levels: from Elementary 1 to Elementary 6.

• Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g.basic personal and family information, feelings, behaviours, fears and pains, animals, acitivities, shopping, local geography, school, time, dates). He/she can count up to 69.
• Starts speaking about projects (What he/she wants/would like to do/ have/see or where he/she wants /would like to go for the holidays, for the school fête).
• Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters provided the other person talks slowly and clearly  and is prepared to help.
