Level B1 objectives

Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes & ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

A New Intermediate

Intermediate 1

This course is designed for students who have completed level A2 Upper Elementary 6 or been assessed prior to enrolling. In this course, students learn the vocabulary and language structures required to:

  • Enquire about and organise share accommodation
  • Learn about French food culture and cooking
  • Read and write your own recipe
  • Understand and use past tenses and subjunctive (imparfait, passé composé, etc.)

Intermediate 2

This course is designed for students who have completed level B1 Intermediate 1 or been assessed prior to enrolling. In this course, students learn the vocabulary and language structures required to:

  • Write a more detailed resume and cover letter
  • Respond to a job advertisement
  • Talk about education-related topics: recall past work experiences and describe university studies or programs
  • Create complex sentences using relative pronouns (dont, que, qui)

Intermediate 3

This course is designed for students who have completed level B1 Intermediate 2 or been assessed prior to enrolling. In this course, students learn the vocabulary and language structures required to:

  • Discuss the media: understand press headlines and articles, and describe exceptional events
  • Take part in debates
  • Express and justify supporting or opposing opinions
  • Use the subjunctive to express goals and achievements (pour que, afin que)

Intermediate 5

This course is designed for students who have completed level B1 Intermediate 4 or been assessed prior to enrolling. In this course, students learn the vocabulary and language structures required to:

  • Discuss the theme of tourism
  • Talk about your past travels
  • Plan a holiday and manage the unexpected
  • Use of the pluperfect (plus-que-parfait)

Intermediate 7

This course is designed for students who have completed level B1 Intermediate 6 or been assessed prior to enrolling. In this course, students learn the vocabulary and language structures required to:

  • Talk about policy and justice: discuss the rights and responsibilities of citizens
  • Understand and give advice on taking the French Citizenship test
  • Write a persuasive sponsorship letter
  • Complex relative pronouns (lequel, duquel etc.)

This course is designed for students who have completed level B1 Intermediate 7 or been assessed prior to enrolling.

In this course, students learn the vocabulary and language structures required to:

  • Discuss art, history, literature and art-related topics
  • Understand and write reviews and critics
  • Write the biography of a famous historical person
Use of the past simple and reported speech (passé simple, discours indirect)
