The 2011 International Piano Masterworks Series ends on a titanic note with the sensational Russian pianist Nikolai Demidenko. He plays in the grand tradition of the great Romantic virtuosi – ‘dazzling virtuosity, supercharged bravura … a magisterial performance by a connoisseur of the keyboard.’ Demidenko studied at the Moscow Conservatoire with the legendary teacher Dmitri Bashkirov and was a prizewinner at many international competitions including the prestigious Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition.
His busy concert schedule sees him performing recitals worldwide as well as regularly performing with the world’s leading orchestras including extensive tours with the St Petersburg Philharmonic under the baton of Yuri Temirkanov. His grand concert program includes works by Liszt, Chopin and the great Russian warhorse, Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. Demidenko is renowned for his interpretation of Mussorgsky’s Pictures – ‘symphonic in its range of tone and colour … deeply Russian in feeling and wonderfully evocative.’
