The encounter of two musicians from opposite sides of the world around the same values and understanding of music performance is what led to the creation of La Société des Antipodes.
Denis Colin (Bass Clarinet) from France and Adam Simmons (Saxophones etc.) from Australia, have embarked on a long term collaboration that will see them work in different parts of the world in diverse ways, from duo to a large band, with the quartet as the centrepiece of the adventure.
Benjamin Moussay will provide them with what is considered more and more in Europe as “some of the best keyboard playing around”, and Chander Sardjoe will be there to make sure nobody is taking it too easy on stage with the energy and diversity of his drumming.
Denis Colin:
From playing with Alan Silva and his Celestrial Communication Orchestra in 1977, his latest live album with his now famous band La Société des Arpenteurs, writing numerous soundtracks and being the guest of greats such as Archie Shepp on the biggest stages in Europe; Denis has built a reputation not just for his skill as a composer for large ensembles, but for his capacity to "rip it up" when playing with his power trio. He has developed a real voice with his instrument of choice, the bass clarinet, pushing always further his search for his ideal sound and tone. And yes, bass clarinet and funk get along very well...
Chander Sardjoe:
He has walked many roads less traveled since his days at the Conservatorium. Besides the curriculum of traditional western classical and jazz music offered at the institute, he studied a lot of non western music and started researching South Indian Classical music.
Chander has worked in a wide variety of musical situations, from straight ahead jazz to contemporary classical music and his vast control and knowledge makes him a highly respected member of the musician's community.
Adam Simmons:
One of the busiest Australian improvisers, using a multitude of instruments, Adam is the real deal when it comes to “lighting firecrackers” on a stage. His involvement in the new music scene has led him to develop his technique even further, while always pushing to free himself from it. An explorer of new territories with his own outfits or when doing his now famous solo gigs, be assured that he still has a few tricks to pull out of his hat.
Benjamin Moussay:
One of the most original European keyboard players of his generation, with the traditional piano as its diverse electronic versions, Benjamin hasnʼt ceased to surprise the public with his compositions and his very energetic playing. Band leaders and composers are fighting for the opportunity to get him to work with them, and this has led him to be involved with some of the most exciting bands of the moment. He has also recorded several albums of his compositions with his own trio.
