DELF & DALF Examinations
What are the DELF and the DALF?
The DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) and the DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are official diplomas awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify the competency of candidates from outside France in the French language.
DELF and DALF are composed of 6 diplomas that are in line with the 6 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL)

Each DELF diploma will asses your four core language skills within a given level. Each DELF exam is made of :
1/ Listening Comprehension
2/ Reading Comprehension
3/ Written Production
4/ Speaking Interaction and Production
DALF Diplomas are also made of assessments on all language skills.

Who can take the diplomas?
Anyone who is not a native French-speaker and who would like his/her French skills to be recognised for personal or professional purposes can take the exams. These diplomas are also recognised by some French universities and Grandes Ecoles as meeting French language requirements for entry. A DELF B2 for undergraduate entry is usually required by French universities and a DALF C1 for postgraduate entry.
What diplomas should I take?
The 6 DELF and DALF diplomas are independent from one another, so you can take the examination of your choice. You can also sit the examination for a number of diplomas during the same examination session. If you are studying at Alliance or not, please refer to the level and examinations description on this link in order to decide which exam level you should sit for.
If you are not studying with us and if you are unsure of the level you should take our online placement test to start with and we will contact you to advise you of your level.
If you have any questions on your level, please contact email@example.com or call us on 3844 4460.

How can I prepare for the DELF or the DALF examinations?
- Preparing for the DELf A1, A2 or B1
You can prepare yourself by enrolling in our classes or taking private lessons. We do not offer specific preparation for the DELF A1, A2 or B1 apart from the standard courses. However, we do recommend that you take at least one x 2-hour private lesson before registering for the exams. This will allow us to advise you on which exam to sit for and will give you a full understanding on what will be required and how you can practise for the exam.
- Preparing for the DELF or the DALF C1
DELF B2 and DALF C1 are complex exams and it is essential to prepare for the written and oral tasks.
Unfortunately we are unable to offer a DALF C2 course due to lack of interest for this very high level. We recommend to take at least 5 session of 2 hours of private tuition.
