Alliance Francaise - Return Home

Episode-2 - French Girls

Bonjour,
Welcome to French Sounds, an exploration in French music.

I'm Damien from Alliance Française, the French language school and cultural centre.
I will be introducing you to some of the best and brightest artists in contemporary French music.

This show is entirely dedicated to Women in French music...Let's start with Mademoiselle K which is in fact a four-person French rock band. The band takes its name from its leader, Katerine Gierak, and so the K is for Katerine. She started music from a very early age and the group's first album, "Ça me vexe", released in 2007 was very much her work. After touring together a lot, the latest album, "Jamais la Paix", has greater contribution from all the band, and is still welcome as a very good surprise on the French rock scene. Lets look back to the first album with the track "Jalouse".

Our next artist, Pauline Croze is a French pop folk singer and musician. She started to sing and to play guitar when she was 14. She has a special timbre of voice, intensely sensual, that has the ability to pierce the shell and touch the heart.
Her first album was showered with praise and success in France (Double Gold Record). Today we'll listen to Baiser D'ADIEU (a farewell kiss) from her second album "Un bruit qui Court" (a rumour going round) released in 2007.

The Do is a very young French rock duo formed by musician and soundtrack composer Dan Levy and French/Finnish singer Olivia Bouyssou Merilahti. Olivia is born in 1982 and her father is French and mother Finnish and she based in France. Levy and Merilahti met while recording the music for the film Empire of the Wolves. The band's name is presumably derived from the first sound of the famous scale (Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Si-Do), but it could be as well formed by the initials of their names (Dan and Olivia). Lets watch On My Shoulder.

In 1997, Carla Bruni quit the world of fashion and her work as a Super Model, to devote herself to music.
In 2002, her debut album "Quelqu'un m'a dit" (Someone Told Me), produced by ex-lover Louis Bertignac, was released in Europe with quite a great success in Francophone countries.  Her music career still did not cease after becoming the French President's wife and France's first lady, she released her third album "Comme si de rien n'était" (As if nothing happened) on July 2008. Today we'll watch the video Quelqu'un m'a dit.

That's all for today, I hope you've enjoyed this touch of French charm! Our next show will focus on Rock. Do not miss it.

See you next time, Au revoir.
