Gallery of the Alliance Française de Brisban
|
|
04 NOVEMBER - 24 NOVEMBER
French born Queensland artist Anne-Laure Déméné is having a solo exhibition of sculptures and paintings.
Although she has specialized her work in portraits ( ex Mayor of Logan and Cleveland, well known Logan resident artist Reg - late opera singer Mrs Elkins, the King of Wallis Island amount many others...) and human bodies' paintings. She also have been commissioned for making trophies.

Anne-Laure has been part of few overseas workshops and international artist exchanges. The title of this exhibition 'Journey' has been chosen as a link between Anne-Laure and her models coming from differents etnies. The title is also a reminder of her last travel to Mongolia where she has tied many relationships.
She strongly believes that you can not grow if you do not share, accept the critics and take risks. So she would like to share this exhibition with you.
She will be at the Alliance Française every Thursday morning from 9.30am to 11.30am.

“Connecting the Dots”
Drawings and Mixed Media Works
By Frederic Tchorbadjian
Gallery of the Alliance Française of Brisbane
Opening on Thursday July 07, 2011 at 6 pm

|
07 JULY - 30 JULY
Visiting French contemporary artist Frederic Tchorbadjian, will exhibit at the Alliance Francaise of Brisbane a selection of his original drawings and 6 mixed media pieces specifically created for the event.
From minimal drawings to large-scale murals, his art has been exhibited over the last decade internationally and appears in various museums and private collections.
His artwork is influenced by algebraic formulae (the symmetric group of the square), which he uses in a unique way to give his own interpretation of natural phenomena. Using pencil, paper and drilled boards, the artist uses primitive signs such as dots and small rods in different permutations to create elegant and sensitive shapes. These are enhanced by the artist’s original approach to the concepts of space and time that inspire him to unravel patterns found in elements such as in solids and fluids.
Some of his hand-made drawings that will be displayed in his first Australian exhibit are inspired by the natural and human-induced catastrophic events that defy human existence.
His media pieces in particular give an understanding of the artist’s intellectual journey: a journey that has led him to create beautiful patterns embellished by subtle luminous
effects.

Primitif
Mixed Media Exhibition
By Damien Hubert
|
|
3 JUNE - 2 JULY 2011
Damien Hubert's exhibition invites you on a primitive journey, a return to our primary instinct embedded in an electronic world. The exhibition “Primitif” gathers a series of mixed media artworks, combining painting, wood carving, plaster, metal and electronic components to describe the place of the human in this modern world. A lieu where tradition and old civilization meet modernity and technology.
Damien Hubert, who is French and Director of the Alliance Française of Brisbane since September 2007, also lived in Paris, Ottawa and Mexico, where he exhibited paintings, sculptures and photographs several times. He was inspired by ancient civilisation and first nation during his travels. “Primitif” reflects the aesthetic traditions of Polynesia and Maori tattoos and Haida ancestral art combined to electronics components and reflects on the place of the human spirit in a modern world.

A world Sans Frontières
Painting Exhibition
By Christine Maudy

Parfum de Femme La Maman et la Putain |
|
05 MAY - 1 JUNE 2011
French born artist Christine Maudy celebrates 10 years of international practice and shares with us a selection of her works entitled “A World sans Frontieres”; an exhibition comprising superbly balanced abstract paintings inspired by the artist’s many travels. The exhibition will be officially opened on Thursday 5h May 2011 from 6pm by Sandra Conte, curator, writer and former gallery director.
Christine ‘s career comprehends 25 solo exhibitions and over 60 group exhibitions in Australia and overseas (Spain, France, Italy, Canada, Dubai, Hong Kong...). A publication documenting her history of intensive painting and her work’s journey around the world will be launched at the opening.
The artist’s works mirror shapes and colors of the nature elements. They come alive in a beautiful balance between fluidity and careful geometric composition. Their surfaces shine and radiate, transmitting an energy, which at times culminates into turbulence. The elements change substance, shapes floats to tell us a story of time and places. Just beneath the surface deeper layers reveal traces of hidden structures. Christine uses a variety of mixed materials including pigment, Chinese paper and gold leaf to create a surface that undulates with intense patterning and texture. Details extracted from landscapes are incorporated in the creative process and transposed in shapes, lines, scratches, brush marks and movements.
“My key words are balance, contrast, colour. I construct my paintings carefully, focusing on the visual qualities of shape and space, texture and light, free from the constraints of real world objectivity.”
Christine Maudy embodies the adage of ‘think local, act global’ in ways that have guided her art, her lifestyle and life philosophies that are reflected in her rich abstract paintings. Her career began as a fashion designer in Paris before moving to Australia to concentrate solely on painting. The relentless energy of her powerful images has gained her a broad following both in Australia and overseas.

PALETTE AUSTRALIENNE
Painting Exhibition
By Sylvie Leroy

Promenade / Stroll, acrylic on canvas Reflet d'Espoir / Reflection of Hope,
oil on canvas, framed |
|
07 APRIL - 30 APRIL 2011
PALETTE AUSTRALIENNE
Sylvie Leroy is a French-Australian artist born in Paris, in 1957. She left France for New Zealand for a few years, but Australia where she now lives took her heart.
‘Palette Australienne’ contains some of the works of Sylvie Leroy representing her vision of Australia.
Each painting captures the vibrant colours and movements found in Native Australia, they are intricate and time must be spent before all the details are discovered.
‘The true worth of Sylvie’s paintings cannot be understood by a simple glance. Take some time to look at the intricacies of each painting as you will find a number of discrete and lovely parts that encompass each one of them. I know, because I bought some originals which are not on her website; and to this day I find more and more things I have not seen in them before’. Dr Robert Stephens

NUDES
Photography Exhibition
By Jacques Maudy |
 |
|
10 MARCH - 03 APRIL 2011
NUDES
Jacques Maudy born in Marocco from a Spanish dad and French mother, he moved to Paris when he was 15 and then to Australia in 1995. He holds dual citizenship French and Australia. Formally trained by Colin Beard at the Sunshine School of Photography he now enjoys the sheer pleasure to bring himself to reality the imagines he creates in his head.
Jacques Maudy's photography can be challenging for some. Some images deal with bondage, sexuality, religion or simply glorify the beauty of the female body.
"The human body is one of the wonders of the world. Playing with light and shades is the essence of photography. Each model has inspired he images which somewhat reflected their personality. My aim is to produce the best images I can without being restricted by mainstream thinking or taboos. Self censorship is not part of my vocabulary."
