Alliance Francaise - Return Home

brisbane's french guide

The Beginning

In January, 2009, Alliance Française de Brisbane launched Le Guide, the first annual guide of everything French in Brisbane.

Through its list of companies and organisations that create French experiences, Le Guide offered special treats and discounts enabling people to find an authentic taste of France without leaving Brisbane.

Le Guide holders also won two nights accommodation at Brisbane's Sofitel (Casey Richards) and VIP tickets to the gala opening of the Alliance Française French Film Festival ( Angela Drane)

Focus on Unique France

Gregoire d’Harcourt and Denis Geoffray established Unique France, the antiques and arts boutique, in Brisbane because they saw exciting possibilities in the mixture of styles between French antiques and Queensland's architecture – modern contemporary as well as the famous Queenslander.

They had traveled around Australia in their younger days and had become buying agents for the company “Corso de Fiori” in Australia as well as for different American companies. While Denis' passion for antiques has always leaded his choices, they both have a strong sense of a cultural inheritance by drawing from a background in which decoration is a pleasure and reflects period and personality, and they have the goal that art lovers, decorators and investors will always find great opportunities to source exotics objects of desire with lasting value.

Not only are the beautiful objects from France, there is a lot of French expertise that goes into preparing them for their new homes. The conservation work for both the paintings and ceramics is performed by specialists based in Versailles, and the marble work is done in a 200 year old factory and the upholstery is created by an artist in the form. They also draw upon knowledge and skills from Brisbane-based people such as a “passionate” clock specialist.

By the end of the year, they are launching both a unique range of fabrics from France and a new collection of exclusive contemporary furniture and home wares such as sofas and coffee tables, in their new show room located 482, Brunswick Street in Fortitude Valley. They will mix in their new space the best possible in art and decoration.
