AGM2010 Annual General MeetingThe Annual General Meeting for Alliance Française de Brisbane for 2010 was held on Thursday, March 25.
During the precedings, the President, the Treasurer and the Director reported on the state of the organisation. All reports showed that, in spite of the difficult financial environment and the major relocation project, the Alliance Française has performed well during 2009 and that the indicators for 2010 are extremely positive.
Management Committee
The Management Committee for 2010-2011 has been announced and the Alliance Française will continue to benefit from the ongoing presence of several long serving members as well as the addition of "new blood". The committee farewelled two members who chose not to renominate due to their heavy commitments: ABC journalist Gerry Collins and the Hon. Justice Anthe Philippides. We thank them for their contribution to the organisation and look forward to their continued involvement in social and cultural events.
The committee gained from the return of Lois Cutmore, who has served previously and who brings considerable knowledge and experience in the teaching of language.
Three new members add an impressive range of knowledge and experience as well as insight to the committee: Eva Cegielka, Mike Veverka and Alfonso Bujanos.
Office bearers
While the Hon. Justice James Douglas will continue to serve as a member of the committee, he announced that he did not intend to run as Chairman. Alliance Française has benefited greatly from the stewardship of Justice Douglas and its is greatly appreciated that his skills and talents remain available to the organisation.
The committee voted for Professor Roly Sussex, familiar to many through his Language Talkback session on ABC Radio, to take up the position of Chairman.
All other previous office bearers renominated for their respective position and the offers were gratefully accepted. With the return of Vice President Laurent Breau, Secretary Gen Fox and Treasurer David O'Dowd, the Alliance will continue to be able to draw upon their considerable experience both within the committee and in business.
